Drawing inspiration from the fluidity of watercolors, I developed a dynamic audiovisual experience that seamlessly integrated with the energy and creativity of Kid Filthy's set.
The core of the visuals centered around ghosting Kid Filthy's silhouette using a Kinect sensor. These silhouettes were then liquefied and distorted, creating the impression of watercolor-like paint swirling and morphing in response to the music. This technique showcased my best execution of slit-scan, a technique that allowed me to capture and manipulate the performer's movements in real-time.
The visual effects evolved throughout the performance, transitioning from the organic, fluid movements of the silhouettes to a mesmerizing star system towards the end. The stars emerged from the liquified shapes, creating a captivating celestial display that complemented the emotive, atmospheric qualities of Kid Filthy's music.
By leveraging the capabilities of Kinect and TouchDesigner, I was able to generate visuals that responded in real-time to the rhythms, textures, and dynamics of the live performance. The result was a captivating and immersive audiovisual experience that invited the audience to become fully immersed in the creative fusion of music and generative art.
This collaborative project was made possible thanks to the support of Jam in Jubilee, Abbotsford Arts Council, CIVL Radio, and Black Connections. The invaluable contributions of Drew Reikman for sound design and M. Hutt Films for documentation further enhanced the overall creative vision.
Through the interplay of cutting-edge technology, artistic expression, and live performance, this installation pushed the boundaries of digital art, offering the audience a truly unique and mesmerizing experience.
